Unleashing the Power of Play

Unleashing the Power of Play

The Imagination Campus educational philosophy is inextricably linked to the one thing that children love and do naturally… PLAY. Our play-based philosophy is nowhere near an all-day “romper room”; rather, it is an intentionally created creative instructional environment designed for interactive play, problem-solving, independence and inquiry-based patterns of study. Through our ongoing partnership with Rice University’s School Literacy and Culture Project, education comes to life in all areas of our campus, especially the following components available for all children:

Outdoor Naturescape
Included in the creative spaces of Imagination Campus is an outdoor naturescape. This 3,000sf-enclosed area is home to several native butterfly species, organic summer fruits and vegetables, a winding walking path, vine trellis and yes, a huge sandbox. All of these spaces are designed for imaginative play—unstructured, free, creative and completely child-directed and adult supervised.

Indoor Gross Motor Area
Affectionately known as “The Globe”, IC’s indoor gross motor area is a safe place for running, jumping and rolling when Houston’s weather just won’t cooperate! In addition, The Globe’s construction area provides blocks large enough to build life-sized structures as well as soft structures that promote balance, coordination and agility.

Literacy Lab and Library
This combination space offers children the opportunity to bring their favorite stories to life by dramatizing classic tales as well as new favorites. Whether children enjoy a time-honored “adult-authored” story, or they discover the joy of bringing a “child-authored” story to life, the Literacy Lab and library provide all of the materials for this exploration.
